As a tribute to the most important Colombian tennis player in the male professional world ranking of all times, so far, this Sunday April 12th the “first ball throw” formal ceremony will take place; a symbolic act that will start the building of the “Stadium Court Santiago Giraldo” in the Pereira’s Country Club. This stage will be one of the sports investments with the highest technologic infrastructure of Colombia in the last years.

With an investment over $500 million of Colombian pesos, the initiative that was driven for over five years by Pablo Felipe Robledo and Eduardo Giraldo is sponsored by Grupo Éxito, Postobón, Colsánitas, Co&Tex and Edevisa. It seeks to place Colombia as one of the essential stages for the international tennis and particularly to host the Colombian team during the matches of the Davis Cup, which is the ultimate male tournament by countries on a world level.

To quote the Director of the Country Club, José Miguel Tibaquirá: “Santiago Giraldo is the best tennis player in Colombia of all times and, to us, it is an honor that he’s from Pereira; that is why this beautiful stadium couldn´t be named somewhat else”.

To consolidate as world-class stage, the “Stadium Court Santiago Giraldo” will have the technical requirements and the infrastructure that the International Tennis Federation (ITF) demands.

The Pereira Country Club, Santiago Giraldo’s hometown, will be the place that will host this Stadium Court with the following characteristics:

  • Capacity to host 2,500 spectators.
  • Two dressing rooms.
  • Lounge rooms.
  • Massage rooms.
  • Judges rooms.
  • Medical assistance rooms.
  • Specialized lighting.
  • An eco-boulevard.
  • A direct way out to the court for the players.

The project will come to an end by the month of June, that’s the reason why the directors of the Pereira Country Club have decided to organize the “first ball throw” next Sunday April 12th, with the presence of the tennis player Santiago Giraldo who will also share with the attendees and will offer a tennis diagnosis with the audience.
