The next tournament in Santi’s calendar is about to start with great expectation; the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. The Barcelona ATP 500 takes place in the mythic Barcelona Real Tennis Club in clay courts.
This is the ideal field for Santi Giraldo, finalist of this tournament’s last edition when the Japanese Kei Nishikori was the winner by 6-2 and 6-2.
Santi was the seeded number 15 and moved to the R2 of the tournament, a phase in which he will play against the winner of the match between the Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov and the Portuguese Joao Sousa.
Giraldo, who stands in the 31st place of the world ranking, moves on the top of the scene where Nishikori can be found as well, being the first pre-classified. The second top favorite to win the tournaments is the Spanish Rafael Nadal.
The Colombian duo: Juan Sebastián Cabal and Santiago Giraldo debuted against the Austrian Alexander Peya and the Brazilian Bruno Soares. The match started around 5:00 am, time of Colombia, and lasted about an hour with final scores of 3-6 and 4-6 on favor of the seeded number 4 of the tournament, the Peya/Soares couple.
Santi paired up with the great Colombian doubles player Juan Cabal but despite putting together all of their experience, they couldn’t win the match.
On the first set, the Brazilian and the Austrian scored two break points and he Colombian couple couldn’t even the score despite all of its attempts.
In the second set, the seeded number4 of the tournament displayed its skills and scored a break point that gave it an advantage on the score until the end, even though the Colombian players tried to recover.
