Santi Giraldo debuted at the ATP 500 of Beijing where the opponent to face was the seeded number 8 of the tournament, the North American John Isner who just won on doubles, pairing up with the Czech Tomás Berdych, after defeating the Spanish couple formed by Rafael Nadal and Pablo Andujar by 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4 on the first round of the China Open.

The match ended with scores of 6-1 and 6-3 in favor of the North American, which currently ranks on the 15th place.

In the first set the serves and the strong hits made Santi’s defense vulnerable; that took the Colombian to miss two opportunities of scoring a break point and lose his serve.

Giraldo reacted in the second set and his reverse kick challenged Isner from the first to the last game, which was a tight one. Giraldo’s response to the US player shots made a fair set; nevertheless Isner ended it with a score of 6-3 on his favor.

Santi had faced John Isner two times before; the most recent was in 2013 at the ATP World Tour Masters of Shanghai, where the victory was for the North American player, and in 2010 at the ATP World Tour Masters of Madrid where his opponent won.

Santi will participate at the Shanghai Rolex Masters Tournament, which will take place from October 5th to the 12th in Shanghai, China. The tournament will share an accumulated stock of $3,849,445 USD.
