The Colombian player debuted at the Halle ATP 500, which last year was a 250 but this year upgraded to a 500, this Tuesday.
Santi was scheduled for today at 5 am, time in which the match started.
The match lasted 1 hour and 49 minutes and ended up with final scores of 7-6(4), 4-6 and 4-6 on favor of the Croatian player, Karlovic.
At the beginning of the match, Santi went out to give it all. The Colombian player disputed the 85% of the points with his first serve, a key move to keep it throughout the set, that got him 3 aces and saved 2 break points by the tenth game. This way, Santi took the match to a tiebreak where he played with great comebacks and managed to defeat Ivo by 7-4.
In the second set, the Colombian player kept up his good work and didn’t give his serve away until the seventh game when the Croatian player scored a double break point and kept this difference in the score on his favor until the end of the set, which he won by 6-4.
At the third and defining set, Santi reduced his percentage of first serves (79%) and only could win 4 points with his comeback. This way, the Croatian player broke Santi’s serve once again and won the set by 6-4.
Santi will continue training for the third Grand Slam of the season at Wimbledon where he will play the R3.
