The Colombian player, Santi Giraldo played the singles quarterfinal of the Istanbul open this Friday. He played against the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, number 63 of the world ranking, for the first time.

The match started around 4:00 am, time of Colombia, and ended up with scores of 6-0, 2-6 and 2-6 on favor of the Argentinian player who moves to semifinals.

At the beginning of the first set, Santi went out to the court seeking for his pass to semifinals and showed himself consistent against the hits of the Argentinian player. He achieved a powerful 6-0 in the first set.

In the second set, Santi started breaking his opponent’s serve once again and took the lead 2-0; nonetheless, Diego took advantage of a break point to get back on his feet and went ahead. He managed to break Santi’s serve two more times and won the second set by 6-2.

The third and defining set was similar to the previous one. Santi started with a break point on his favor to lose it later; even though he managed to get back on his feet again, the Argentinian player broke two of Santi’s serves and won the set by 6-2.

On the second match of the day, Santi next to Marcus Daniell faced the seeded number 1 of the tournament, the couple formed by Robert Lundstedt and Jurgen Melzer, at the doubles semifinal. The final score was 1-6 and 2-6 on favor of the opponents.

Giraldo and Daniell started the first set with two breaks against them and couldn’t turn things on their favor.

The second set was similar to the first one, Santi and Marcus couldn´t keep Melzer and Robert’s pace and finally they won the set by 6-1 and their pass to the final.
