Santi Giraldo, from Colsanitas Team, is now en route to Melbourne to participate on the main draw of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of this year.


The Spaniard Guillermo Garcia Lopez (58th world position), defeated Giraldo during the second round of the main draw of the ATP 250  of Auckland, New Zeland.

The player from Colsanitas’s Team and 68th place of the weekly world ranking  was defeated by 6-7 (7-9), 6-2 and 6-3 after a match of 2 hours and 22 minutes. Guillermo García Lopez, former 23rd world position during 2011, has recently defeated Dutch Robin Haase, 43rd world position and 8th favourite of the event, and now wins on quarterfinals.

This is the third occasion that Giraldo and Garcia faces each other after their participation in the  2011 ATP of Gastaad and Paris Masters 1000. Giraldo was victorious during the first event, and the Spaniard won the second. Both with three sets matches. The Spaniard made it into the final of San Petersburgo ATP 250, Russia on September 2013, and during the season made it into the finals of Bucharest ATP 250, Rumania; the semifinals of Hertohenbosch ATP, Holand; quarterfinals of Casablanca ATP 250, Morocco and the third round of Hamburg ATP 500, Germany. The event’s main draw is headed by Spaniard David Ferrer (3rd world position), German Tommy Haas (12th position) and American John Isner (14n position), among others.
