Swiss Roger Federer, a seven-time world champion, takes on Santi Giraldo —from Colsanitas Team— in the third round of the 2014 Wimbledon Championships, third Gran Slam event of the year that brings together the best tennis players from around the world.
The Colsanita’s tennis player —who made it to the third round of Wimbledon for the first time on his career, andfor the second time into a third round of a Grand Slam event— was beaten today by Federer during a match with partials of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-3.
Giraldo had to left the event after a 1 hour 21 minutes match. But not before this Friday, when he defeatedSpaniard Marcel Granollers, world rank number 30; and after defeating spaniard Daniel Gimeno, world rank number 96.
Freder, a 79 championship winner and more-than 39 times finalist, was crowned champion of the 2014 Gerry Weber Open at the Court Stadium at Halle, Germany 500 after defeating Alejandro Falla, from Colsanitas Team, in the final. He just reached the fourth round in Roland Garros, the final in Masters 1.000 of Montecarlo, the final in Masters 1.000 of Indian Wells, the final in ATP 500 of Brisbane, the ATP 500 Dubai’s title and the semifinals at the Australian Open.
It was the second time that Giraldo faced Freder, after disputing the 2011 US Open. Swiss Freder won that match by 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2.
Compared to last year, Giraldo improved his performance on Wimbledon’s second round. His performance in Grand Slam tournaments was equaled by his 2012 performance at Roland Garros where he made it into the third round. Santi has been in Wimbledon’s main events since 2010 and on the classification ranking during 2008 and 2009.

Santi will face Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver in Wimbledon. The Colombian tennis players from Colsanitas Team, Giraldo and Alejandro Falla along with Alejandro Gonzalez from Argos team will make their debut in Wimbledon’s main events against players from Spain, Croatia, China and Taipei.
This is the third Grand Slam tournament of this year and will begin in London this monday. It will bring together 128 of the best tennis players from around the world. World number 37, Giraldo; number 57, Falla; and number 74, Gonzalez. They will await to define on Sunday who will play on Monday and Tuesday, the selected days by Wimbledon to play the first round matches of the main event. Sant Giraldo’s opponent will be the world number 99, Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver, both players had faced each other in seven previous occasions, from which the 6th has resulted in a victory for Giraldo. Their most recent match was on this year during the Masters 1000 of Indian Wells, won by Giraldo.
