The doubles team conformed by Santi Giraldo and Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, faced the doubles team of Canadian Daniel Nestor and Serbian Nenad Zimonjic, experienced opponents pre-classified as position no. 3 of the Western & Southern Open of Cincinnati. Victory was for Nestor and Zimonjic who won by 2-6, 3-6 during a match of 53 minutes.
The efforts of Santi and Guillermo were pitted during a not so even match against their opponents. Nestor/Zimonjic doubles team is currently among the doubles ATP top 10 of the world ranking, has won three Grand Slam trophies and 10 Masters 1000.
The match started minutes befor 5:00 pm, Colombian time, at court 7 of the tennis complex. The match was started soundly by seed no. 3 of the tournament and took the lead quickly. They won the first set with two breakdowns in favor during 20 minutes.
The second set was more even, but during the sixth game Nestor and Zimonjic broke the service of Santi and Guillermo. Then, it was difficult to beat the score and finally after a 23 minutes set, Nestor and Zimonjic won the match, classifying to quarterfinals.
As a result, Santi accumulated 90 ATP points for the doubles ranking and gained access to the top 300.
The next tournament for Santi will be the US Open, therefor, he will train in US courts during the next week.
