Santi Giraldo of the Colsanitas team started his participation at the Shenzhen Open defeating the Chinese Bowen Ouyang who just got past the classifying round with three wins. This was the first great encounter for the 22-year-old before a Top 30 player of the ATP ranking.

The match started with hard work from the Asian player, who was trying to damage Santi’s field with strong serves and counterattacks. The set ended up with scores of 6-3 on Ouyang’s favor.

On the second set, the Colombian player recovered his position before the left-handed youngster by shooting strongly from the baseline, which was his best weapon before Ouyang’s defense. Despite the fact that Santi started with a break against him, he managed to overcome that and to move forward. The set ended up with scores of 6-3 on the Colombian player’s favor.

On the third set Santi showed his experience on the court by defeating the Chinese player with final scores of 6-4.

This way Santi moves forward to the second round of the tournament where he will face the Australian 18-year-old star Thanasi Kokkinakis, who is currently in the 184th place of the world ranking and just defeated the Bulgarian, Egor Gerasimov on the first round.

Likewise, Santi participated on doubles at the ATP 250 of Shenzhen teaming up with New Zealand’s player, Michael Venus. The first rival of the couple was the duo formed by Juan Mónaco and Máximo González, on a match played at the court number 3 of the tournament.

The result was on favor of the Giraldo-Venus couple, which defeated the Argentineans with scores of 4-6, 6-3 and 10-4 on a match that lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes.  Santi and Michael are now in the quarter-finals and await for their rival to be announced.

The ATP 250 of Shenzhen takes place from September 22nd to the 28th and will share a stock of USD $656,000.00.
