Santi debuted in the R2 of the Barcelona ATP 500. With a “bye”, he played against the Portuguese Joao Sousa on the first round, an old rival in clay courts. The Portuguese just defeated the French Kenny De Schepper who replaced the Ukrainian Dolgopolov.

The match started around 4:00 am, time of Colombia, and lasted about an hour and a half with scores of 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1 on our Colombian racquet’s favor.

In the beginning of the match, Santi went out for the win and started scoring a break point; he kept this advantage until the end of the set. Despite the chance of scoring a second break point that he couldn’t complete, Santi won the first set by 6-3.

The second set was even until the eighth game when Santi couldn’t concrete his firsts serves and the Portuguese scored two break points and then won the set with his serve by 6-3.

The match had a third and defining set; Santi set the difference on this one and never stepped back, he went for it, scored to breaks and took the set by a powerful 6-1.

This way, Santi moves to R3 where he will face the same rival as in last year’s final, Kei Nishikori, and he will seek revenge.

Santi Giraldo will continue with his participation on singles at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell 2015, also known as Conde de Godó, which shares 1,993,230 Euros.
