Santi Giraldo started his participation on the second Grand Slam of the season this Monday morning. The rival to face was the US player Donald Young; they have never played against each other on professional tournaments before.

Young reached the 38th place in the world ranking back in 2012; he played the final at the Delray Beach ATP 250, the semifinals at the Memphis ATP 250 and the quarterfinals at the Auckland ATP 250, among other achievements.

The match started at 8 o’clock in the morning and lasted two and a half hours with final scores of 6-4, 7-5 and 6-3 on our Colombian player’s favor.

Santi had a rough start since he started with a break against him before Donald; nonetheless, he overcame these difficulties, won five games in a row and took the first set by 6-4.

There were some irregularities by both parties regarding their serves in the second set. Santi started with a break on his favor but the US player got back on his feet and took the lead of the game; immediately Santi reacted and scored two break points, this allowed him to win the set by 7-5.

In the third set, Giraldo stepped up his game and scored two break points just to win the set by 6-3.

It is worth to mention that the Colombian player           had 32 winning hits against 27 mistakes and only had one fault over 6 aces on his serves; this numbers speak for his good game.

On the R2, Santi will play against the Belgian, David Goffin, on singles. Tomorrow, Santi will play next to Dusan Lajovic in the court number 14; they will face Tristan Lamasine and Johan Tatlot on the first round of doubles at 5:30 am (time of Colombia).

The Roland Garros stadium will host, until the first week of June, the best tennis players of the ATP.
