In the Gstaad ATP 250, the Swiss Open, Santi faced the seeded number 2 of the tournament, his partner on doubles this week, the Spanish Feliciano López, looking for his pass to the semifinal.

The score was 2-0 on favor of the peninsular tennis player, but no match in clay was played before; the previous matches were at the US Open 2011 and the Australian Open 2008, both on hard courts.

The match was scheduled to take place in the first turn of the main court at 3:30 am, time of Colombia.

The match lasted about an hour and a half and ended up with final scores of (4)6-7 and 4-6 on the Spanish player’s favor.

In the first set, Santi played better than the Spanish player in many aspects and with his comeback he had five break point chances in three different games; the Spanish player managed to save them all and took the first set to a tiebreak where he won by 7-4.

In the second set, Santi decreased his percentage of first serves; this put him more at risk of losing his serve and he did. The Spanish player broke Santi’s serve in the fifth game and kept that difference on his favor until the end of the set to win it by 6-4.

Santi adds 45 points that will allow him to keep on going back up to the top 40 and is now getting ready for the Kitzbühel ATP 250 in Austria next week.

Let’s go, Santi!
